• Often done during night/off-peak hours
• The more often a backup is done, the more secure the data will be, but the larger the storage requirements needed
• In order to keep the size of a backup small, only the files that have changed are back up
• To be completely safe, backups should be stored off-site/in the cloud

Archiving

• Speeds up the overall running of the main system but still give access to the files should the need arise
