OCR
- Converts printed media into editable text documents using a scanner
- Old media can be digitised so that it can be published in new formats (e.g. e-readers)
- Resulting document must be proofread as OCR isn’t perfect
OMR
- For multiple-choice responses
- Not suitable for any form of written communication
- May not be picked up if only part of the box is marked
MICR
- Used for cheques because of the high cost of the reader
- Ink containing iron oxide and specific fonts
Touch screens
- Two types - resistive and capacitive
Resistive
- Cheaper
- Made up of two thin transparent sheets which record a voltage when touched together
- Image isn’t especially sharp
- Not support for multi-touch
Capacitive
- Sharper image and multi-touch
